Russia Is Waging Shadow War On NATO

The Chinese ship that cut NATO’s telecommunication cables was directed to do so by Russia. The ship is still surrounded and anchored but Beijing refuses to let investigators board the ship. Last week, a Russian warship fired flares at a German helicopter that was trying to figure out why they were in Danish waters. Russia has been attacking NATO left and right, with an OSCE report finding Russia has conducted at least 150 attacks on NATO since the war began. These attacks range from cyberattacks, sabotage, information operations, and violence campaigns. Earlier this year they tried to place fire bombs onto commercial airlines and plotted assassinations. They also have been calling in bomb threats across the alliance, the most notable instance was on Election Day in the United States. NATO has been struggling both to defend itself and determining where to draw the line. With many members wondering when enough is enough for Article 5. America’s Helsinki Commission said that Russia is executing a shadow war on NATO. The commission issued its conclusion on what action the US should take this past Friday, here’s what they said: “Only by confronting Russia’s hybrid warfare head-on and ensuring Ukraine’s victory can NATO effectively deter further Russian provocations. – Restricting aid or failing to meet the urgency of Ukraine’s needs only signals weakness and invites further Russian escalation, both in Ukraine and within NATO’s borders”. #usa #nato #russia
