In the case of the Banking Royal Commission, it took years of dogged reporting, the bravery of whistleblowers and a politician who wouldn't let the issue die. It earnt the gratitude of thousands of Australians who had their financial situations and sometimes, their lives, ruined by the misconduct of the financial sector.
