Most people think they’re making the decisions about their vehicle after an accident. In reality, that’s often not the case. In this episode of The Airing of GRIEVEances, we walk through a real example of a nearly brand-new Toyota RAV4 that was repaired at an insurance-approved shop. On the surface, the vehicle looked fine. But once we looked closer, we found something that changed everything. The radiator support was bent. It was on the estimate to be replaced. It was paid to be replaced. But it wasn’t replaced. And that was just the beginning. In this video, we break down: • How insurance-approved shops operate under direct repair agreements • What “insurance-compliant” estimates really mean • How aftermarket and used parts decisions get made • What happens when work is sublet to outside mechanic shops • Why ADAS calibrations matter • And how a vehicle that “looks good” can still be unsafe This particular vehicle was ultimately declared a total loss after post-repair inspection. The most important takeaway: decisions about your car may be made by multiple people behind the scenes, and you may never be told. Estimator. Body technician. Painter. Sublet mechanic. Calibration vendor. Insurance adjuster. If you’re not asking questions, you’re not really involved. At Nylund’s Collision Center in Englewood, Colorado, we do not participate in direct repair programs. We follow manufacturer repair procedures and use OEM parts. We believe repairs should restore vehicles to pre-loss condition, not just insurance-approved condition. If you’ve recently had your vehicle repaired and you’re unsure about the quality of the work, ask questions. Get documentation. And consider having it inspected by a certified shop. You have the right to choose your repair facility. 📍 Nylund’s Collision Center 4495 S Santa Fe Dr Englewood, CO 80110 Learn more about OEM repairs and consumer rights on our channel and website.
