Riding around Volcanic Islands on a Vespa?! In this episode, we embark on our most exciting Sicilian adventure yet - spending 48 hours island hopping between the volcanic Aeolian Islands! Today we are on the islands of Lipari and Vulcano, where we ride the narrow streets by scooter, sample the delicious local Malvasia sweet wine, and stumble across some of the most stunning viewpoints we have ever seen! In the Tyrrhenian Sea, just off the northern coast of Sicily, lies The Aeolian Islands (Isole Eolie), an archipelago of seven islands (Vulcano, Lipari, Salina, Panarea, Stromboli, Filicudi, and Alicudi) resulting from over 260,000 years of volcanic activity. Lipari, the largest of the Aeolian Islands is also the name of the island's main town and comune. The last eruption on the island took place around 1,400 years ago, and there are currently no signs of volcanic activity other than thermal springs and fumaroles. Until recently, one of its main industries was the extraction of pumice, created by past eruptions. Vulcano, named after the Roman god of Fire, is the southernmost of the Aeolian Islands north of Sicily, Italy.
