For this video, I meet up with Jake Phillips, General Manager of Biota Aquariums, to get an inside look at something I’ve never witnessed before: a large-scale group of captive-bred Swallowtail Angelfish (Genicanthus melanospilos). Up until now, I’ve only seen these fish released in very small batches. Seeing this many available at once felt like a genuine milestone for marine aquaculture. I knew I had to experience it firsthand and document it. It’s incredibly exciting to watch sustainably bred reef fish become more accessible to hobbyists who have been waiting for this opportunity. And there’s more good news. Captive-bred mandarins are now arriving in the U.S. at noticeably larger sizes, which is fantastic for anyone looking for a healthier, hardier mandarin for their aquarium. This represents another major step forward for sustainable reef keeping, and I’m excited to share the experience with you. Let me know what you guys think of this in the comment section down below and happy reefing!
