This project involved installing a series of AquaDams in the Los Angeles River concrete canal to divert flow for construction. The system included multiple double closed end (DCE) and single closed end (SCE) AquaDams of varying sizes, strategically connected with collars and ropes. Installation began with unrolling and filling the large 4ft × 250ft DCE AquaDam, followed by smaller units to extend and reinforce the barrier. Workers used forklifts, ropes, and manual techniques to stabilize the structures during filling. Challenges arose with gaps between the 6ft and 4ft DCE AquaDams, causing seepage that required mitigation using sandbags and additional smaller AquaDams (1.5ft and 3ft tall). Ultimately, the system successfully diverted most of the river flow, as shown in aerial imagery dated June 20, 2023, though careful adjustments were needed to manage seepage and water pressure.
