Extensive Testing: In dynamic center-crash tests, the Utility SIG prevented underride injury to an instrumented dummy in a 35-mph perpendicular crash into a fully loaded refrigerated trailer. The crash used the IIHS’s standard test automobile, a 2010 Chevrolet Malibu. Utility’s SIG, which is nominally 27” above the ground, has greater ground clearance than other aftermarket guards currently available. As a result, Utility’s SIG did not high center in the same ground-clearance tests Utility uses to test the performance of its aerodynamic skirts. (In contrast, the aftermarket product high centered in tests with both loaded and unloaded trailers, damaging the guard and the trailer). Additionally, over 20 trailers currently operate in the U.S. with the Utility SIG installed.
