Longs Peak has many different routes to choose from, and one of the most popular is the Cables Route on the North Face. It is the most direct route to the summit of Longs Peak and is exciting in any season. This route formerly had a set of fixed cables attached to it that offered the casual adventurer a "lifeline" to aid ascents of this technical face. Removed in 1973, the cables are gone but the steel eye-bolt attachments remain, used by climbers year- round as protection points and as anchors for rappelling. In addition to the standard hike to the famous Boulderfield, and the 3rd and 4th Class scramble up to the base of the North Face, The Cables Route showcases 55 meters of technical climbing at the grade 5.4. Most parties use ropes and technical climbing gear to ascend and descend this route, but many skilled climbers regularly solo the route. Above the technical section climbers must negotiate 2nd and 3rd Class terrain to the summit plateau. Join Lisa Foster as she solos the route in August and enjoy the scenery of one of the most beautiful places in Rocky Mountain National Park (RMNP) and even the world!
