Indeed, Allah has forgiven my Ummah for mistakes, forgetfulness, and what they are forced to do under duress Fasting in Islam, particularly during Ramadan, is a fundamental act of worship. Here are the rules of fasting according to Islamic teachings: Fasting in Islam, particularly during Ramadan, is a fundamental act of worship. Here are the rules of fasting according to Islamic teachings: 1. Who Must Fast? Fasting in Ramadan is obligatory for: ✅ Every Muslim ✅ Who is mentally sane ✅ Who has reached puberty ✅ Who is physically able to fast ✅ Who is not traveling Exceptions: 🔹 Children – Not required, but encouraged to practice gradually. 🔹 Sick people – If fasting harms them, they are exempt (must make it up later or feed a poor person if chronic). 🔹 Travelers – Can delay fasting and make it up later. 🔹 Menstruating/Pregnant/Breastfeeding women – Must make up the fast later when able. 🔹 Elderly/Terminally ill – Exempt; they should feed a poor person for each missed fast. 2. Pillars of Fasting For fasting to be valid, two main conditions must be met: 1️⃣ Niyyah (Intention) – The intention to fast must be made before Fajr (preferably at night). 2️⃣ Abstaining from Invalidators – From Fajr (dawn) until Maghrib (sunset), one must avoid: Eating & drinking (including chewing gum) Sexual intercourse (major invalidator; requires Kaffarah) Deliberate vomiting 3. What Does NOT Break the Fast? ✅ Unintentional eating or drinking (e.g., forgetting) ✅ Using miswak (toothstick) or brushing teeth (without swallowing paste) ✅ Swallowing saliva ✅ Bathing or rinsing the mouth (if not swallowed) ✅ Medical injections (if non-nutritive) ✅ Blood tests 4. Things That Break the Fast & Require Qada (Makeup) ❌ Eating or drinking intentionally ❌ Vomiting deliberately ❌ Menstruation or postnatal bleeding ❌ Sexual intercourse (requires both Qada + Kaffarah) Kaffarah (Expiation for intercourse during fasting): 🔺 Free a slave (if applicable) 🔺 If not possible, fast 60 consecutive days 🔺 If unable, feed 60 poor people 5. Recommended Acts (Sunnah) of Fasting ✅ Delaying Suhoor (pre-dawn meal) close to Fajr ✅ Breaking fast immediately at Maghrib (not delaying Iftar) ✅ Breaking fast with dates & water ✅ Reciting Quran & making Du’a ✅ Giving charity & feeding others ✅ Praying Taraweeh (night prayers) 6. Special Cases 🔸 Travelers: Can fast or skip and make up later. 🔸 Pregnant/Breastfeeding women: If fasting is difficult, they can skip and either make up later or feed a poor person (depending on the school of thought). 7. The Night of Power (Laylatul Qadr) 🔹 Falls in the last 10 nights of Ramadan 🔹 Worship is better than 1,000 months 🔹 Recommended: Pray, read Quran, make Du’a Fasting is not just about food and drink—it’s about self-control, spirituality, and increasing Taqwa (God-consciousness).
