What is "PriZhm"? PriZhm is love. PriZhm is life. PriZhm is rhythm. PriZhm is... weird? Developed by the Doujin outlet, RezetiA, back in late 2008, they're also the makers of other weird games like "Vampire Castle", "Zillion Beatz", "PLADZMA", etc. The game is a no-frills horizontal scrolling shmup, and I MEAN no-frills. I'll start by saying there's no written plot... you just use girls for some reason who shoot machines and stuff for some reason. Elements play a role in the game for some reason. Characters are named after gemstones for some reason. I tried to glean a plot from the visuals for some reason (show, not tell). There's no credits for some reason. At least things blow up when you shoot them for reasons. It is dubbed a "Fantastic Rhythmical Highspeed Side-Scrolling Shooter". The player can take control of three characters: Ruby (she has balanced power, range and speed as the fire element), Rin (who has high speed with a narrow range and higher power, her name is a reference to Jade btw and she's wind / lightning element) and Lazuli (aka Lapis Lazuli, she is slow but has a wide shot and is the water element). The game has a relatively simple system where the player shoots down enemies, uses bombs, grabs gems (which will increase your elemental power), increases the combo gauge and gradually increases their power as time progresses. There are no real power-ups or unique items, the stages are pretty linear affairs that just go from left to right without any real surprises, and each character mostly plays the same. By holding down a button and shooting, you can move slower but shoot a concentrated blast and reveal your hit-zone as well to make dodging easier. There are five stages. Fun times. The game's gimmick is that you can only gain combo points when you have enough gems to increase your element gauge, and this gauge depletes very quickly unless you gain a substantial amount. Even then, the game tends to give you large stretches of nothing when you amass a high amount of element power, essentially letting it go to waste. Another gimmick is that the game actually incentivizes using your bombs, as they will maximize your element gauge as well as allow you to "overcharge" the gauge if you hold down the shot button after activating, causing the gauge to go beyond 100%... you can overcharge for a short time for additional power, but doing so for too long will cause your character to explode, reducing your lives by one. There's also a "Rhythm Machine" mode where you can observe the game's bosses on different difficulties. Like the name alludes to, bosses attack in different ways based on the difficulty and shoot to the music. The game has some cool pre-rendered graphics and an abstract, almost otherwordly soundtrack... sometimes. Other times, it's just fairly hardcore, lol. While it's not a bad diversion for an hour or two, it's hard to recommend simply because there are so many GOOD Doujin shooters, but I enjoyed it for what it is. This is a video of the game in action. ADDITION - Visit Us At: http://www.gamingsanctuary.org
