I believe that this is absolutely true. Not only do you build yourself a richness of people – friends, colleagues, business contacts – but you also build the foundation for business or financial wealth as well. In this video precisely, my 7 BEST Networking Strategies on the importance of networking and explain to you how to network. My name is Chris Igwe and I have over 35 years’ experience, creating, growing and leading teams while living and working in 5 countries, as well as doing the same with teams across other countries. As mentioned earlier, I will share with you my 7 networking strategies to consider creating a successful network and which have served me very well in my life and my career. As a basic rule of business networking, you do not build your network of contacts without a strategy. And as I keep mentioning in my videos, successful leadership is achieved by having a process, a system, and a strategy. #1 Strategy in Networking – Build Rapport Probably amongst the networking strategies, this is the most valuable. Firstly, it will come as no surprise, especially today and all our personal and professional challenges that we all need to know that someone cares for us, for me, and wants to help me, rather than get my business. #2 Strategy in Networking – Being Intentional When you decide that you are going to build and/or expend a network, you take a conscious approach. Which individual or company do you want to connect with and what is their role or position in the company? #3 Strategy in Networking – Value Add How many of you just connect with someone – at a conference, a tradeshow, at a cocktail event, or a cold call them, but have nothing of interest or value to share? To tell you the truth, when I started out in my industry, I admit to collecting all the business cards I could and giving mine to the other person. A few years into this, I became more strategic about how I approached this, going through a filter of questions in my mind. #4 Strategy in Networking – Sell! This may shock, even surprise many people, but the primary objective must be about creating a long-term mutually beneficial relationship. If you start out by selling something, you are doomed to failure. Let’s face it, no one likes to be sold anything. If I want to buy, I will decide for myself. You really must master this one of all the networking skills to succeed. #5 Strategy in Networking – Become a Resource My networking tips for you here is - if you approach things correctly, you can be a huge resource to people. I have people call me all the time to ask my advice (for free), have me as part of a think tank, get my thoughts on a subject, see if I know anyone who can help solve their problems, etc. You get known as someone people can trust for honest feedback. If you approach it correctly, the universe pays you back – not directly, but through another avenue or door. #6 Strategy in Networking – Be Patient This is probably one of the hardest things for people. You may ask yourself, how to network with people and how to grow your network through patience?! We live in a world where we want everything, and we want it now. Just as Rome was not built in a day, neither does building a network that can help grow your business. Tony Robbins may not know me (yet!), but I have not only done the fire walk he famously taught – walking on hot coals, but I can reach him directly. The President of France may not know me (yet), but I have one degree of separation to him. Many of the CEOs in my industry are only a phone call away. #7 Strategy in Networking – Nurture A couple of months ago, I was trading messages with Mark Victor Hansen, legendary speaker, training and most famously author. I first met Mark some 20 years ago, he shocked me by putting me on stage with him, and I can still reach him today. Bob Proctor, a legend of the personal development world is only a phone call away and is always happy to hear from me. That is what creating a successful network is all about.
