About Episode 008: In this episode we make a quick trip to Penas Blancas on the Nicaragua border (“Frontier” Penas Blancas) to renew our tourist Visas and extend our stay in Costa Rica an additional 90-days. Although the trip requires some meticulous coordination and planning, it is a great solution for tourists not meeting the criteria to apply for residency. Thanks to Tamarindo Transfers and Tours and the seasoned travelers on board, we were able to successfully navigate the border and renew our visas to reenter Costa Rica. Come along as we travel from Montezuma up to Guanacaste where we took our COVID tests and boarded the shuttle before navigating through the border. Required Documentation: 1. Negative COVID PCR Test (within 72 hours of border crossing) 2. Health Pass / Pase de Salud 3. Passport 4. Confirmation of Return Flight to US within 90-days **Although some passengers showed these documents via cell phone, we found it easier to print them out since we had to hand over documents for our entire family, to officials, on several occasions. Border Crossing Step-byStep Procedure as of 06/06/2021: 1. Pay Costa Rica Exit Tax (Keep Receipt) 2. Costa Rica COVID Test Verification + Passport 3. Costa Rica Passport Check Kiosk 4. Nicaragua COVID Test Pre-Verification Kiosk 5. Nicaragua COVID Test Validation + Ticket Validation 6. Nicaragua Immigration Screening - Passport + Border Fee ($2 US per person) + Entry Tax ($13 US per person) 7. Nicaragua Entry Screening + Exit Tax ($3 US per person) 8. Nicaragua Luggage X-Ray 9. Costa Rica Passport Pre-check Kiosk 10. Costa Rica Immigration Screening - Passport + Health Pass + Return Ticket verifying exit from Costa Rica within 90 days 11. Costa Rica Luggage X-Ray Total cost = $18 US per person (Tamarindo Tours & Transfers included the $8 US exit tax per person in our $45 US cost per person) We recommend bringing small US dollar bills for easy payments.
