Looking to learn about logarithmic scales? This video starts with a simple example to illustrate what log scales are and see visually and dynamically how they differ from traditional linear scales. The video also presents example problems based in three common real-world applied contexts in which they are used: earthquake magnitude & the Richter Scale, loudness of sound & the decibel scale, and acidity/basicity and the pH scale. These three applications are used to illustrate, but overall the video focuses more on the central mathematical concept of logarithmic scales rather than the specific detailed physics/chemistry aspects of each situation.
