Date: Thursday July 6th 2023 Time: 3pm-4pm Topic: Building a Winning MICE/International Events Bidding Strategy Moderator: Patrick Delaney Speakers: Waikin Wong (ICCA), Neasa Ní Dhomhnaill (Dublin Convention Bureau) Topics discussed: 1. Alignment of key competencies with priorities of destination’s stakeholders (e.g., local and national governments) to drive ROI 2. Vital role of an ambassador program in building strong, local relationships 3. Importance of research while preparing a bid Successful, strategic event bids require the right combination of strategic thinking, effective communication, and negotiation skills. This webinar uses case studies to illustrate these three points, along with the “three Rs” of a successful bid — research, relationships, and ROI. Starting with ROI, panelists explained how bidding priorities need to align with those of the destination. If a destination’s stakeholders, especially those concentrated on its continued economic development, focus on specific sectors (e.g., big tech, finance), then event bidding strategies should also align with these sectors. The best ways to then attract and successfully bid for future event business relies on developing solid relationships with experts and key opinion leaders in those sectors, and using both these connections and other sources for comprehensive, ongoing research before, during, and after preparing and submitting a (hopefully successful!) bid. Other good resources to engage during this process include the ICCA database and destination rankings.
