Popular Selections by Paul Whiteman and his Orchestra (Program Transcription) 1931 00:00 I’m Sorry Dear (Mildred Bailey) 02:39 Old Playmate (Jack Fulton) 04:56 Good Night Sweetheart (The Romancers: Jack Fulton, Bill Seckler, and Craig Leitch) A very mellow 10 inch long play one sided record with 3 complete tunes all of which are rather slow songs. Nicely played and sung. It is a bit controversial as to how good these records sound played at a slow speed. I think this one is in pretty great shape and sounds quite good. But, there is distortion especially in the opening minute or so of the record. Imagine all the terrible needles and heavy tonearms have been used to play this record over the decades. A somewhat short lived new long playing 33 1/3 rpm format made with shellac exactly like the standard 78 rpm of the day. The grooves are even the same size to accommodate a 3 mil needle. This particular recording was recorded for this format and is pretty successful. Some later Program Transcriptions were dubs of 78 record. The players available for these records were very expensive and the records were known to wear out quickly. After a short run these advanced 33 1/3 rpm records were discontinued.
