FILMED IN HIGH DEFINITION Vevay, Indiana is a historic riverboat town, that quietly sits along the Ohio river, just a short drive from Madison (to the south) and Rising Sun (to the north). What it offers is amazing, 1800’s mansions, and a downtown filled with unique sites! Settled by the Swiss, in 1802, the community was built on wineries, the export of hay, and had a flourishing steamboat port. Fortunes were made and mansions were built. You can park along the riverfront, an empty spot in town, or at the courthouse, and spend a few hours walking and taking in over 200 years of history. It’s a perfect activity for a nice, sunny day! Key things to see are the beautiful waterfront, UP Schenck mansion, Benjamin Schenck mansion, Hoosier theater, Courthouse that was a station on the underground railroad, and the swiss influenced architecture of downtown. You can tour an 1854 jail, see a one of kind six-sided outhouse, historic fire bells throughout the town, an art gallery, or take in a swiss restaurant. Part II, of this documentary, covers the THREE Vevay museums: 1. The Thiebaud Farmstead 2. Life on the Ohio River History Museum 3. Switzerland County Museum
