Tegernsee (lake) https://www.google.com/maps/place/Teg... From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia https://ro.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tegerns...) Tegernsee is a freshwater glacial lake in the Miesbach District of Upper Bavaria (Germany), about 50 kilometers southeast of Munich. Its area is an unincorporated area in the district of Miesbach District. It is owned by the Bavarian state and managed by the Bayerische Verwaltung der staatlichen Schlösser, Gärten und Seen (Bavarian Administration of State Palaces, Gardens and Lakes). Geography Tegernsee is located in a glacial cave, created by the Inn Glacier from the Ice Age in the Alps about 20,000 years ago that later filled with water. The elongated shape of the lake clearly shows this glacial-morphological origin. It has an area of 8.9 km² with a length of 5.7 km from north to south and a maximum width of over 2 km from east to west and a maximum depth of 72.6 m. The watershed has a size of over 210 km². The valley of the Tegernsee is sunken into the edge of the Alps, forming here mountains of only 1100-1300 m above sea level with pastures and forests, the highest mountain being, somewhat distant to the south, the Wallberg at 1722 m above NN. The north of the lake is already located outside the Alps, surrounded by moraine waves, in which the only effluent, the river Mangfall, with which on average 8/m³/s of water leaves the lake. The main tributaries besides Alpbach, Söllbach, Breitenbach, Zeiselbach, Quirinbach, Grambach, Weidenbach are the small rivers Weißach (4.3 m³/s, during high water it can reach 108 m³/s) and Rottach ( 1.2 m³/ s, during high water it can reach 45 m³/s). The rest of the water comes from springs or groundwater. The entire region is part of a large rural protected area.[1][2] The only island, Ringseeinsel, with an area of 0.8 ha, is located in the southwest of the lake only 70 m from the reeds on the shore in the southern territory of the municipality of Gmund, being covered with grass and willows. It, like the neighboring area between the island and the reeds, is a refuge especially for the tufted duck on the IUCN Red List and is a year-round protected area.[3] The following municipalities have a lakeshore (clockwise from the north): Gmund am Tegernsee Tegernsee Rottach-Egern Kreuth Bad Wiessee Historic The first beginnings of settlements around Tegernsee by Celtic tribes date back to the late Neolithic era (3rd century BC). But it was only in the 6th century that the real history of this region began with the Baiuvari and their dukes from the House of Agilolfing. In 746, two noble brothers, Adalbert and Otkar, from the ancient Housi (Housigau) family, founded a first monastery with a church (which, according to legend, was consecrated by St. Boniface in 747) at tegarin seo, Adalbert becoming the first abbot. Probably in the year 752, Uto, Otkar's nephew, brought the relics of the Holy Martyr Quirinus (d. 269) from Rome to Tegernsee (buried on June 16, 804), which attracted pilgrims, partially allowing the development of the sanctuary. But above all the generosity of the founders and probably of the Bavarian duke made it a wealthy monastery: She was the owner of the entire Tegernsee area from the Tyrolean border in the south to Warngau and Holzkirchen further possessing estates in addition to Freising, Rosenheim and one-third shares at the salt pan in Reichenhall. Thus already in 817 the monastery was recognized as one of the richest. In 921, the monastery was secularized by Duke Arnulf the Evil. But Holy Roman Emperor Otto II restored it in 979 as an imperial abbey. Thus began the great period of glory of the monastery which, already around the year 1000, had 200 Benedictine monks. A document from the 13th century states that he possessed more than a thousand real estates. ............
