The ZhiYun Rider-M 3-Axis Stabilizing Gimbal is an amazing bit of kit. Designed for use with GoPro HERO cameras, it allows for SUPER SMOOTH video footage. I'll be reviewing the ZhiYun Rider-M in full shortly but in the meantime, here's a quick teaser video with a comparison WITH & WITHOUT the gimbal while skiing. The camera and gimbal are mounted on the GoPro Chesty Mount. NOTE: before purchasing the ZhiYun Rider-M for use with snow sports OR to use with the GoPro Chesty Mount, please consider the following points. 1) Mounting the Gimbal on the chesty mount requires you to turn the gimbal base to a vertical position. This restricts the range of movement, which results in occasionally being able to see part of the gimbal mechanism in shot. This occurs more if you are skiing, as the side to side movement brings the gimbal mechanism into frame as you make your turns. However, this is not a deal breaker as the video can easily be cropped in an editing program to remove the intrusion. 2) You can use GoPro HERO3, HERO3+, HERO4 or HERO 4 session cameras (with an additional bracket) with the gimbal. Except for the HERO4 Session, which is built in to it's own waterproof housing, the cameras are naked in the Gimbal frame. This could potentially expose them to rain/snow when using the gimbal. 3) Even the best skiers or snowboarders can stack it!! In the case of a fall or collision, it is highly likely that the gimbal would be damaged. DO NOT USE THE GIMBAL FOR SNOW SPORTS UNLESS YOU ARE FULLY AWARE OF THE RISK OF DAMAGE TO THE GIMBAL!!! You have been warned!! Would I recommend using for snow sports? Only if losing an expensive piece of gear won't break the bank. I wanted to showcase how much more stable the gimbal can make your footage and something as aggressive as skiing seemed like a good way of making the point. Shot using the GoPro HERO4 Black Edition camera. The ZhiYun Rider-M makes an amazing difference to the stability of footage. Thank you for watching.
