Churchill Downs Behind the Scenes Tour

On our visit to Churchill Downs in Louisville,Kentucky on Senior Day, we ran across, Pat, an employee who took us on a behind the scenes tour of the track facility.. She got us into see places that others do not get the opportunity to see. We saw a glass work of art made of over 4,000 pieces of blown glass. It was made by a master glass artist who dreamed of doing this project. He was encouraged by the late Princess Diana to follow his dream and replicate the famous Churchill Downs in blown glass. We saw where people come to place global bets on various events. We were able to view all the old memorabilia that was saved when tearing down the old grandstands. We were shown the caricatures of the jockeys and the owners/trainers that were such a work of art. Pat then took us to see ‘The Green Mile’ in the old part of the building. She got us into places that others don’t normally get to see such as the rooftop, corporate suites, and the winner’s circle. She shared so much history of the track. You don’t want to miss all that she showed us in this behind the scenes tour of this very historic race track.
