On the morning of 25th December 1914 across this frozen and mist-covered ground in northern France, a lone German soldier appeared. In the minutes that followed dozens and then hundreds of men emerged from the trenches of the Western Front, to meet their enemies in no-man’s-land, and share a moment of peace that has gone down in history. But what was the real story of that day? Was there a universal peace? and did all of those who witnessed those events live to see the end of that day?
