Strathmore 300 v 400 Series Paper - Charcoal Drawing Series, 1 of 8: What You Need to Know

We're bringing you an 8-part series on Charcoal Drawing. And to kick it off, we're talking about the different types of Strathmore paper. Part 1-4 are on paper, part 5-8 are about using charcoal. And all the better, we're over with our friends at Plaza Art Stores filming from the Rockville, Maryland store. In this video, we focus on the Strathmore 300 series paper, highlighting its forgiving nature when drawing with charcoal. Unlike the 400 series, which offers brighter whites and higher contrast but is less erasable, the 300 series erases well and is ideal for quick sketches and classes. The 500 series, on the other hand, is museum quality with minimal acid content, making it highly durable but not erasable. We'll give you a quick demonstration using the 300 series paper with powdered charcoal and vine charcoal, showing how it helps in blocking and composing paintings, but the value in this clip is with the explanation of the paper.
