xAPI reporting: insight from statements

Thomas Turrell-Croft Berry Cloud Although an LRS stores a huge amount of data, it is difficult to represent this as information in the LMS, creating a disconnect between the data and the learner. LRS reporting can require in depth knowledge of xAPI and the course structure, while the LMS doesn't utilise the power of xAPI, often throwing away information which isn't at the course level. We wanted to break down that barrier and create learner first reporting, retrieving insight from statements and delivering it to learning development professionals without them having to understand or even be aware of xAPI statements. Without knowing the structure of courses that might be uploaded to the system, the challenge was to collect, group and present data in a way that still offered valuable insight. Our aim was to clearly display reports for both Tin Can and cmi5 launched courses, no matter which authoring tool was used, or how many times a user completed an assessment.
