(WCBS) Eleven Democrats, including former Gov. Andrew Cuomo and Assemblyman Zohran Mamdani, are running for mayor of New York City in 2025. Voters in New York City casting their ballots for City comptroller, Manhattan district attorney, as well as Manhattan, Brooklyn and Bronx borough presidents, among other races. CBS News estimates a turnout of 1.1 million voters. With Mamdani and Cuomo polling ahead in the top 2, this may trigger the city's ranked choice system. To begin his speech at Lander HQ, Brad Lander stated, "With our help, Zohran Mamdani will be the democratic nominee for the mayor of the city of New York." This comes after Cuomo made a speech saying Mamdani "won" and that his campaign was "going to take a look and make some decisions." Cameras at Mamdani HQ captured Kamala Harris' granddaughter Ella Emhoff gathering and dancing with friends. Brad Lander later appeared at Mamdani's watch party. Cynthia Nixon, a New York City politician and best known for her role as Miranda in "Sex and the City", also appeared at the watch party. Nixon once ran for Governor of New York.
