Running Leadville Marathon (1st Race of the Leadman 2022)

This is the start of the Leadville Race Trail Series iconic Leadman Challenge. This running and mountain biking (MTB) multi races series is not for the faint of heart. It starts right here with "only" a marathon - the infamous Leadville Marathon. But ultrarunners out there be warned - this ain't a regular marathon, and is harder than many ultramarathon! Going up to 13k feet of elevation, your legs will scream, and you will be out of breath gasping for air from the start of this running race. Curious about the trail running gear I use and recommend: check out this link https://linktr.ee/runningwithsimon Shorter race are not my thing, and coming straight from sea level made it a major challenge. Before the race, even just walking would get me winded – needless to say it was a major effort to push for a full marathon with ~6k feet of elevation gain. This historical race starts at 10k ft of elevation and goes all the way to 13k – passing through old mining sites – vestige of the mining heritage of Leadville. Running through those, you can literally witness the toughness of this town from which has emerged the Leadville Race Series. As mentioned in the video – this is the start of the Leadman Challenge – which will be followed by 4 other trail running and mountain biking races (2 x 50 miles, 2 x 100 miles) in Leadville. Not being a mountain biker – this is a major (and scary) challenge for me. I’ll also be running the Grand Slam (see my Old Dominion video for more info).
