Presented by the Swift Current Centennial Committee as part of Swift Current's Centennial celebrations, The History of Swift Current takes us on a journey through the highs and the lows of the creation and growth of the Frontier City. The 1960's mark a turning point for the city of Swift Current. It is during this era that we can see the seeds of what the city would eventually become. The old pedestrian bridge was demolished and became the 2nd Ave. overpass. The Trans-Canada Highway was moved to its present location from Chaplin St. The Civic Centre was built and the Swift Current Broncos were formed. While the local police force was changed over to the RCMP. It was a decade of change, starting a long and difficult journey from "The Frontier City" towards the city it is today.
