Heather and I are both adapting to our new lives and routines. She's doing very well now, and seems to be more relaxed and not stressed and as tired as she was in the first few days of her new residency. You can see they're taking excellent care of her, which is a tremendous relief to me. I'm still trying to sort out things at home. The house is messy and I still find myself feeling a bit of shellshock at the enormity of it all… There's still some chaos in the house from the intense caregiving while Heather was still at home. I'm trying to force myself to do things during the day… I need to come up with some routines and pick up hobbies and things that I deferred when she was diagnosed. I'm so glad that I maintained my social connectedness, and didn't just drop things like playing in my samba band with my dear friends. I've maintained connections with people and this is what will help me pick up and get back into some kind of a normal life. For the short term, though, I'm going to allow myself to just stumble around and figure things out. I hope you enjoy this catch-up. As always, thank you so much for your support and amazing comments. It really lifts my spirits and gives me hope for society. Remember, you are not alone! Xo John YANA BACKGROUND Heather first started showing signs of memory issues in early 2021, and in October 2021 she received the diagnosis of primary progressive aphasia, which is a form of frontotemporal dementia. Her cognitive decline since then has been rapid and steady, as frequently happens with early onset dementia. Her mobility has degraded at the same time, making the situation even more challenging.
