2000 Ford Ranger EV Battery Cell Repair! Fixing A Bad LFP Conversion

Join Alex as he diagnoses the battery issues on this 2000 Ford Ranger EV. This truck was previously upgraded from its original NiMH (Nickel–Metal Hydride) batteries to more modern LFP (Lithium Iron Phosphate) cells, but unfortunately the quality of the workmanship and engineering wasn’t great, leading to several problems. On top of that, the wiring under the hood had become a complete rat’s nest and needed serious cleanup, with several connections requiring proper repairs. Follow along as Alex tears into the pack to replace faulty cells and uncovers additional issues along the way, including water intrusion and corrosion. Working within a limited budget, he addresses as many of these problems as possible without rebuilding the entire battery pack. He also cleans up the underhood wiring and replaces the charge port harness. By the end, the truck still has some underlying issues, but it should hopefully serve its owner for the foreseeable future. Eventually, the battery will need a full rebuild to properly resolve the remaining problems.
