Nepal Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli tendered his resignation on Tuesday, as hundreds of protesters attacked his office and vandalised the residences of several political leaders, against the government’s ban on social media. The protests left 19 people dead and over 300 others injured. The protesters, under the banner of Gen Z, shouted slogans such as “KP Chor, Desh Chhod" (KP thief, leave the country) and “Take Action Against Corrupt Leaders" in multiple parts of the capital city, Kathmandu, news agency PTI reported. ------ The election to choose India’s next Vice President is currently underway, with lawmakers from both Houses of Parliament casting their votes. The ruling NDA has nominated former Tamil Nadu BJP president CP Radhakrishnan, while the Opposition has fielded senior advocate B Sudershan Reddy. According to Rajya Sabha Secretary-General PC Mody, who is the returning officer, polling will be held in Room No. F-101, Vasudha, Parliament House, between 10 am and 5 pm. The Opposition has framed the contest as an “ideological battle,” though the numbers favour the NDA. Meanwhile, several regional outfits—including the Biju Janata Dal (BJD), Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) and Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD)—have chosen to abstain. Their stance, party leaders say, reflects an effort to underline state-level priorities and maintain distance from both the NDA and the Congress-led INDIA bloc. ----------- Prime Minister Narendra Modi began his visit to the flood-hit Himachal Pradesh and Punjab on Tuesday (September 9) to review the rain-afflicted damage and rehabilitation efforts after weeks of heavy downpour that have wreaked havoc across several northern states.
