IndiGo’s CEO Pieter Elbers resigned on March 10, 2026 — effective immediately. Most Indians don’t know this, but under Elbers, IndiGo went from a purely domestic budget airline to a globally connected carrier: → Turkish Airlines: 33 European cities + 9 US cities (New York, Boston, Chicago, DC, San Francisco, Houston, Atlanta, Miami, LA) via Istanbul → British Airways: 22 IndiGo routes carrying BA’s code → Air France-KLM: 30+ Indian domestic routes feeding into AF/KLM’s global network → Qatar Airways: Doha to 7 Indian cities → Delta + AF-KLM + Virgin Atlantic: A four-airline partnership MoU contemplating loyalty, cargo, and sales cooperation → Plus Qantas, China Southern, AEGEAN, and more Every single one of these codeshares was signed under Elbers’ leadership since he joined in September 2022. His resignation comes after the December 2025 crisis — approximately 4,500 flights cancelled and a ₹22.20 crore DGCA fine. Co-founder Rahul Bhatia is now back as interim CEO. The real question: does IndiGo keep building global partnerships, or does new leadership pull back to fix domestic operations? BluChip, their loyalty programme, still has zero airline transfer partners. The Delta–AF/KLM loyalty cooperation is still just an MoU. Meanwhile, Air India has Star Alliance, 24 codeshare partners, A350s on long-haul, and Maharaja Club — the only real loyalty programme in Indian aviation.
