One of the most important works in the Dark Fantasy Genre, Claymore, has garnered a niche group of hardcore fans over the years. Despite the manga having come out in 2001, followed by a relatively successful anime adaptation in 2007, we would still call it an underrated series, considering its quality and depth. You can clearly see the influence from a number of series in Norihiro Araki’s piece de resistance, especially from Berserk, which often leads to the two being compared by fans of the genre. Although the premise of the story and characters are totally different, one cannot deny the obvious influence of Kentaro Miura’s seminal work on Claymore. Just like Miura, Norihiro Araki has managed to build an extremely detailed universe set in a medieval world plagued by threats that are seemingly both supernatural and scientific in nature. The world of Claymore is plagued by beings called the Yoma, who are the apex predators of the land where the story is set in. Even the weakest Yoma have the ability to decimate the population of an entire town all by itself as it has the ability to blend in with humans. The only way to take care of this threat is for the humans to hire the services of extraordinary half-breeds that are part Yoma and part human called the Claymore, thanks to the giant sword that they all carry. Similar to what some of you might have guessed, the Witchers from Andrzej Sapkowski’s novels are titled the same. However, in the case of the Claymores, they are all females outside of the very first generation of these warriors, who were all males. Throughout the course of their order's history, they have had their fair share of triumphs, failures, betrayals and heroic deeds. As the curtains of deceit begin to fall, Araki weaves a tale that will shake the very foundation of his character’s world. Thanks to his excellent writing, we, as fans, have had plenty of opportunity to come up with our very own theories regarding some of the more esoteric parts of the story. In this marvelous video today, we intend to explore some of these theories and present them to you. So put your tinfoil hats on and hang tight as we dive once more into the gritty and dangerous world of the Abysal ones. #claymore #anime
