What is Monsters & Memories? And why does everyone keep calling it an “EQ clone”? In this video, I break down exactly what Monsters & Memories is, who’s building it, and why I think it stands out in today’s MMO landscape. We talk about the game’s old-school design philosophy, its focus on community and danger, the volunteer-driven development model, and the biggest misconceptions surrounding it — especially the idea that being inspired by EverQuest somehow makes it a bad thing. I’m not pretending that backing an MMO before 1.0 is a safe bet in 2026. This genre has burned players more times than we can count. But after spending time with Monsters & Memories, I wanted to put together an honest breakdown of why I think this project might actually hold water.
