In the heart of Mbekweni township outside of Paarl lives quite an extraordinary family headed up by Mirriam Toni, called Mirriam's House. For the past 17 years, Mirriam, has unselfishly taken it upon herself to look after orphaned and abandoned children in her community providing food, shelter, clothing as well as schooling for them.The Mirriam House is a small project with big heart. With a tiny budget and a lot of heart, she's been raising these children as if they were her own. Her main focus is to provide these children with shelter and food, faith in God and an education. In 2011 her dreams were shattered when the shack in which they were living burnt down and took the life of one of the toddlers. However, tears of sorrow have been turned into tears of joy as Mirriam House was able to open the doors to their new building thanks to the generosity of many donors.
