Meet Ruth as she sits down with Support Worker, Margaret for a candid chat about her journey to independence. Ruth is an individual we support in Llanelli. As a young woman, she was sent to live at Hensol Castle, which at the time, was a hospital for people with learning disabilities. She was given no choice in this transition and all of her independence was taken away during her time there. Ruth recalls how her life has changed since then and along with Margaret, she reflects on how her physical and mental health is directly linked to her independence. Despite some serious health issues over the years, including a cancer diagnosis and mobility restrictions, Ruth has been determined to stay active and maintain her social life. Here's her story...
