Hira Cave, also known as Ghar-e-Hira, is a small cave located on Jabal al-Nour (the Mountain of Light), about 3 km from Mecca, Saudi Arabia. It holds immense significance in Islamic history as the place where Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) received his first revelation from Allah through the Angel Jibreel (Gabriel). Before prophethood, Muhammad (PBUH) would frequently retreat to this cave for meditation and reflection. In the year 610 CE, during one of these retreats, Angel Jibreel appeared and revealed the first verses of the Quran—Surah Al-Alaq (96:1-5), commanding him to "Read" (Iqra). This event marked the beginning of his prophethood and the divine revelation of the Quran. Hira Cave is about 634 meters up Jabal al-Nour and can accommodate only a few people at a time. Despite its small size, it continues to be a major pilgrimage site for Muslims who visit to reflect on its spiritual significance.
