China’s "Silk Road Maritime" network, a key cargo highway for the Belt and Road Initiative, is steering global trade into the fast lane, by linking continents and powering supply chains. Recent data shows the speed of its growth. Last year, the shipping network handled more than 5.4 million containers—that’s a nine percent increase from the year before. Bulk cargo shipments surged even more dramatically, up over 26 percent. What began in 2018 with just over a dozen routes has expanded into a vast global shipping web. It now operates 148 international routes, shipping millions of containers to 150 ports across 48 countries—from Southeast Asia to Europe. Customs officers say the next goal is to incorporate the sea network even more closely with overland routes. In total, data shows more than 26 million containers have been shipped along the Silk Road Maritime routes since their inception. __________________ ShanghaiEye focuses on producing top-quality contents.
