In a significant achievement highlighting the critical contribution of women to scientific research across Sub-Saharan Africa, Ms Kelebonye Kelly Ramolekwa has been recognised at the 16th edition of the L’Oréal–UNESCO For Women in Science Young Talents Sub-Saharan Africa Awards. Ms Ramolekwa was selected as one of 25 outstanding PhD candidates from 18 Sub-Saharan African countries, from a highly competitive pool of more than 550 applicants. As part of this prestigious recognition, Ms Ramolekwa received a €10,000 research grant, along with specialised training in leadership, scientific communication, and career development. The grant supports her PhD research, which focuses on enhancing yield potential and improving the nutritional quality of advanced cowpea lines. Her research is conducted under the supervision of Dr Tait, Dr Lekgari, Professor Ngwako, and Dr Malambane. In recognition of the excellence and impact of her work, Ms Ramolekwa was nominated as the Southern African representative and selected as one of the principal speakers at the intergovernmental Pan-African Panel discussions, further affirming her role as an emerging leader in agricultural and food security research.
