#howtomake #handtools #woodworking Watch me make small but nicely weighted wooden mallets perfect for cabinet/furniture making. These are to join two other larger mallets I made a while back. Each mallet is filled internally with metal shot and resin to increase mass not size The handles are Turned on my Record Power Coronet Herald Wood Lathe. I love woodturning and these handles are a classic example why i would never want to be without my lathe. The American Purple Heart Mallet handle is turned from a piece of Apple wood which had some very beautiful and interesting grain colours and patterns. The Chacate Preto mallet handle is turned Zebrano Both mallets have a Maple centre and both heads are secured to their handle with the use of a through wedged mortice and tenon. On one end of each mallet I cut a recess and lined it with leather / hide to protect wood when assembling joints like dovetails The mallets compliment my #veritas tools as they are not too brutal.
