How to Install FloDrain Domestic Channel Drainage System | FloPlast Installation Guide

The FloDrain Domestic Channel Drainage System from FloPlast is available with either a plastic or galvanised steel grate option and is manufactured to BS EN 1433, with a load class A15 – 1.5 tonnes. 1. Dig a trench deep enough to accommodate the FloDrain plus either a 50mm deep compacted sand or concrete base. The trench should be wide enough for a minimum of 100mm backfill of concrete on each side. If installing a Sump or Trap Unit, dig the trench deep enough for this to be installed at the lower end of the run. 2. Fix a string line to the finishing height of the grate, 2mmm below the final surface level. Allow for a fall of approximately 5mm for every 1 metre length – the equivalent of 1:200. 3. When connecting the FloDrain to your drainage pipe you can either place an End Outlet at the lowest point and connect 110mm PVC-U BS EN1401 drainage pipe or fix the drainage pipe to the bottom of the FloDrain and drill out the appropriate position. This can then flow into your pre-dug soakaway. To prevent debris leaving the channel drain you can install a Balloon Guard and then periodically remove any collected waste. This product should not be connected to a main foul sewer, unless prior authorisation given by your local council. Once you have prepared the sand or concrete base it is now time to start laying the FloDrain. Remove the grate and beginning at the lowest point of the run place your first piece and then connect the next length by interlocking them. It is advisable to use silicone sealant for the FloDrain joints and end caps. 4. If any lengths need to be cut, this can be carried out simply with a hacksaw. Should you need to connect 2 cut lengths together you can do this by using a good quality sealant or mastic. To accommodate turns in your Channel Drain installation you can use the Quad Corner product. This has the same connections as the channel drain so can be connected easily. If your installation area has non-standard angles then 2 lengths of channel drain can be cut at the required angle and placed together using a good quality sealant or mastic. 5. Once all lengths are in position, install an End Cap at the highest point. If the highest point is a cut end then install the end cap using sealant or mastic. 6. With all lengths in position, replace the grates and add some protective tape to the top of the lengths. 7. Add concrete to a finish level 2mm above the level of grate. If installing block paving or paving slabs you should support the lengths (haunch) with concrete to a height which allows the depth of the block or slab to finish 2mm above the grate. You should allow 72 hours to cure before vehicle use or removing of the grates.
