Dr Melanie Murcott (Senior Lecturer, Department of Public Law, University of Pretoria) and Mr Tim Fish Hodgson (Legal Adviser, International Commission of Jurists (Africa)) share their thoughts on some of the litigation instituted in South Africa challenging the state's response to COVID-19 in terms of the Disaster Management Act (introducing a lockdown and various restrictions on the rights and freedoms of South Africans). They do so from an administrative law perspective, for purposes of teaching their students (LLB and LLM) studying administrative law. In this first video (part 1), the administrative law context of the state's response to COVID-19 is outlined.
