Indian Railways is a pioneer in freight forwarding. However, at the freight unloading companies, there is a huge risk of damage to their equipment, for example, tripling system, manual unloading, payloader unloading & etc. In this context, a committee chaired by Sri Kumaramangalam initiated mitigation measures. Derived from it ... BOBR. BOGIE OPEN BOTTOM RAPID DISCHARGE WAGON. These Wagons are also known as Rapid Discharge Coal Hopper Wagons. The type used by Railways is BOBRN type having 8 underside doors and the one used by Thermal Power Stations has 12 underside doors. These Wagons can carry 60 tonnes graded coal and can ply in merry-go-round system. 1) The piston rod of the DOM must be fully retracted when the doors are closed, then the secondary lock will sit completely. 2) The main purpose of the secondary lock is to prevent the doors from opening when the primary lock fails, and also to prevent the secondary lock from weighing up to 50 tons even when the formation is moving. 3) The secondary lock served as a backup mechanism, similar to the CBC Anti creep mechanism. This specification covers the technical requirements for rehabilitation of BOBRN wagons. The works involved fabrication of new side walls, end walls, hopper arrangement, hopper door assembly, damaged underframe, modification of air brake equipment and piping & door operating mechanism members. To ensure good quality of welding, it is essential to install the wagon on manipulator for undertaking this work so that down hand welding can be performed to the maximum extent. The top and bottom Centre pivots will also require replacement and top pivot fixing with lock bolts. The bogie, draft gear and couplers including uncoupling gear and brake gear of the existing wagons will be retained. In case any of these components are missing or damaged, they will have to be replaced. Only BOBRN Wagons Preferably in age group of 15-21 years shall be taken up for rehabilitation unless condition of a particular wagon so dictates. Rehabilitation of wagon to be taken up only if center sill of wagon found to be good condition. And good quality welding should be done. 3) Door pins should fit outside, and washer & split pins should fit. 4) Good quality reviting should be done for bearings near & far end. 5) Do not weld to the operating lever and square shaft as shown in this picture. If the square shaft does not come out, replace the new square shaft, then weld only the circular APD. 6) BOBRN doors should not be patched as BOXN WAGON is patched as shown in this picture, this will prevent the DOM piston rod from fully retracting. so, Door patches are not allowed in BOBR wagons. 7) The eye bolt lock washer should hold the eye bolt pocket as shown in the picture. 8) The turn buckle locking bolt must fit in the slot. 9) The adjustable lever should be tagged with the tag wire as shown in this picture. 10) Links should not be lined with gaps, and should not be heated and bent. 11) Door hinges should not have any welding joints, such hinges should be replaced with new ones. 12) Safety items should have good quality welding, Do not weld safety items badly.
