Soo Line 4-6-2 2719 operating on excursions on the Wisconsin Central shortly after its restoration in 1998 and 1999, and a photo special on the Wisconsin-Great Northern Railroad in 2001. The 2719 was built by Alco in May 1923 as one of six H-23 Pacific types. It became the last steam engine to operate for the Soo Line in 1959. The engine was displayed in Eau Claire, Wisconsin from 1960 to 1996. The Locomotive & Tower Preservation Fund restored the locomotive to operation in 1998 and operated it on various Wisconsin railroads until 2003, once again becoming the last steam engine to operate on the Wisconsin Central. After a few years in storage, the locomotive would be moved to the Lake Superior Railroad Museum in Duluth, MN and operate specials from 2007 to 2013. Today, the 2719 is awaiting the federally mandated 1472-day inspection, tentatively planned by the current owners of the Lake Superior Railroad Museum.
