Sora, Donald and Goofy arrive at Pride Rock, where they meet with Nala and a monkey, Rafiki, who is like a shaman in the Pride Lands. He looks over Sora, Donald and Goofy as the other lionesses look on expectently, but then he whispers something to Nala, and she gets a depressed look on her face. When Sora asks what's going on, Nala explains that whoever defeats Scar will be the next king, and that king has to have certain qualities. Goofy points out to Sora that she means he's not fit for the job. Nala apologizes for bringing him out here, then tells him to leave as quickly as he can so Scar doesn't find him. When they go to leave, they get ambushed by the hyenas from earlier. Then they hear a roar and turn to see Scar, and Pete, too. Scar leaps down to them, and so does Pete, but he's not exactly that graceful...Sora asks what he's doing here, but Pete tells him to be more worried about himself, Donald and Goofy, who are surrounded by hyenas. Scar tells the lionesses to go hunting, but Nala tells that there's no more prey. However, Scar gestures toward Sora, Donald and Goofy as prey, so he leaps on them, but Nala intercepts and tells Sora to run, so they do and Nala follows them. Nala apologizes for the trouble. Donald says that Sora wouldn't have been a good king anyway, but Sora did want to be one...When Sora asks if there is anyone else who could be king, Nala says there was one, but he died when he was young. When she mentions Simba, Sora recognizes the name and tells Nala that Simba was fighting beside him in their last journey. Excited by the news, Nala asks where he is, but Sora doesn't know. She wants to know more, but first they have to get away from Scar and head into the valley. Meanwhile, at an oasis far away, Simba continues to think about his old life. Timon and Pumbaa come in and ask why he's depressed, and tell him just to relax and live by Hakuna Matata. While Simba smiles at the thought, he walks off sad, and looks at the sky, thinking of his father, then lies down as petals of flowers and grass blow into the distance. Sora, Nala, Donald and Goofy reach the edge of the valley, and Sora looks down at the deep pit. Then Nala backs up and leaps over the cliff. When she asks why Sora isn't coming, he says they won't make it, and Nala realizes that Rafiki was right about him. Nala shows Sora how to do it, and he leaps across the gorge, and his lion form learns the "Dash" ability, which will make his movement speed approximately five times as faster than if he was a person. As the group proceeds through the valley, the petals that Simba sent into the air reach Pride Rock, and Rafiki grabs them out of the air. He throws them into his shell bowl, and looks them over. He realizes through the scent that it's Simba, and draws a mane on the cub marking he made when Simba was born, and runs off to get Sora, Nala and the others. Nala talks with Sora about how she was told Simba died when Mufasa died, and Sora asks who told her that, and it was none other than Scar. Then Rafiki comes in, and says 'it is time', and points into the distance. Nala realizes it must be Simba, so she hurries off, and Sora and the rest follow behind her.
