A woman is dead after getting attacked by an alligator Tuesday afternoon in Lake Kissimmee. Polk County deputies responded just after 4 p.m. to assist the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission at the mouth of Tiger Creek into Lake Kissimmee. The lake sits between Polk and Osceola counties. Two people were canoeing in the lake when an alligator attacked the woman, the sheriff's office said. FWC confirmed that her body was pulled from the lake. The Polk County Sheriff's Office helicopter and marine unit are responding along with deputies from Osceola County. FWC confirmed that a contracted nuisance alligator trapper has been dispatched to the area. According to the FWC, gator courtship begins in early April before mating starts in May and June. Anyone concerned about a possible nuisance alligator should call the FWC's toll-free Nuisance Alligator Hotline at 866-FWC-GATOR (866-392-4286).
