This composition was made during the rising of the Jacobite rebellion in England in 1745 and the military conquests the Israelites achieved in this oratorio were seen as parallels to the victory achieved in crushing the Jacobite rebellion and the subsequent praises to God by the citizens, hence it’s popularity within England.
