The incident took place in Delhi Police’s North-West district. According to the police, the man’s real name is Lakhpat Singh Negi, a 36-year-old resident of Rohini Sector-20. He is a graduate and had previously worked as an accountant. For the past two years, he had been posing as a police officer to take advantage of people. When the police stopped his Hyundai Accent car, he claimed to be a sub-inspector posted at the Cyber Police Station in Dwarka. But when they checked the records, the truth came out. The police team grew suspicious when the Maurya Enclave police patrol was conducting rounds near the Bank of Maharashtra, KP Block, Pitampura. Lakhpat, who was sitting in the car there, was behaving oddly. His answers during questioning were evasive, which led to a full search. During the search, police recovered four fake Delhi Police ID cards with the name “Lakhpat Singh, Sub-Inspector” printed on them. They also found a sub-inspector’s uniform with a nameplate, three mobile phones, a toy pistol with a holster, a beret cap, a peaked cap, a fluorescent jacket, Delhi Police stickers, several badges, file covers, court summons, eight debit and credit cards. The items looked so authentic that anyone would believe he was a Delhi Police officer. Police are now investigating how many people he has cheated over the past two years and the methods he used. So far, the accused has no previous criminal record, but from the items found and his way of operating, it’s clear that this was a well-planned act. Following the incident, the real police have warned the public not to blindly trust anyone just because they are wearing a police uniform. If in doubt, verify their identity and posting through the local police station or helpline.
