In this video, I discuss spine surgery in elderly patients — the types of procedures we consider, how we assess surgical fitness, and how we balance risks and benefits. While age alone isn’t a disqualifier, careful evaluation is essential. I also explain what kind of operations are more commonly offered in older adults, including decompression and fusion procedures, and how outcomes can differ from younger patients. If you're supporting an older relative or exploring options for yourself, this is a must-watch. There are multiple professionals (surgeons, physiotherapists, chiropractors, osteopaths and more) who treat back and spine problems. But often they work independent of each other and few patients have someone taking responsibility of overall oversight of care in a team. This is why I founded The Spine Multi-Disciplinary team (MDT), to bring all professionals of spine care together under my oversight as a surgeon to provide spine care that gets results. TOTAL SPINE CARE THAT GETS RESULTS! KEEPING PEOPLE MOVING This video is only a guide and is no substitute for being seen and assessed by a healthcare professional.
