'The Girls in the Boat', a new play by Angela Keogh, was developed with rowers and actors in Carlow Rowing Club. Set on the fictional shores of St Brendan's Lake, Lakeside Boat Club is a vibrant rowing club at the edge of a small Irish town. Four women, whose lives intertwine, face their struggles on and off the water. The choreography for this work reflects the elegance, strength and endurance of the characters. This play gives the audience an insight into what drives the athletes and how they overcome the challenges that competitive sport and life bring. The work asks some uncomfortable questions about winning and losing but ultimately it is a celebration of the deeper victories that sport provides alongside the incredibly focused engagement that competition demands. CAST OF FOUR: Elaine Rowe, Susie Mitchell, Mary Pat Maloney and Angela Keogh. DIRECTED by John MacKenna VIDEO by Chris Jacques Supported by the Arts Council of Ireland, Creative Ireland and Carlow Co Co.
