Born in Aichi prefecture, Japan in 1983, Yasutomo Oka is a contemporary artist known for his mastery of hyperrealism. Graduating from Tama Art University in 2006, Oka has cultivated a distinctive style where his oil paintings often appear indistinguishable from photographs. His meticulous approach involves a month-long process for each portrait, beginning with real-life models that he subtly idealizes throughout the creation. Oka's subjects are frequently depicted in diverse settings and attire. Some portraits feature women adorned in traditional kimonos and floral hair ornaments, set against intricately patterned wallpaper. Others showcase subjects in casual clothing, often posed within domestic environments, such as looking out of a window. His work also extends to enchanting outdoor scenes, with figures placed within forests and gardens. In these pieces, Oka's skill is evident in his ability to capture every detail, from facial features and strands of hair to the texture of fabric and skin. He pays particular attention to the eyes, which he considers the most crucial element in achieving a photorealistic effect, ensuring they possess lifelike glints and reflections that enhance the realism of his portraits.
