How many people know that just 17 km from the center of Warsaw there is a wild, marshy, swampy valley that turns into an almost tropical jungle in spring and summer? Would you go into the swamps and backwaters to experience an adventure and meet the inhabitants of the "Polish Amazon" near Warsaw? "Adventure in the Polish Amazon" is the story of the discovery of the Mała River and its backwaters by Daniel Petryczkiewicz, an inhabitant of nearby Konstancin-Jeziorna. Historically, the river was called Wierzbna, it originated in vast swamps and peat bogs near the village of Baniocha, and in the 15th century it was the border of the property of the knights of King Jagiełło! Currently, it is a habitat of beavers, many wild birds and amphibians. The inhabitants of the surrounding villages recall that once the river was much deeper, and you could fish in it. Now the fish appear rather periodically and the river itself can dry up due to the lack of rain and rising temperatures. Daniel fell in love with this place during the pandemic. He started not only regularly wandering along the river and learning about its history and nature, but also protecting it from damage and pollution. This is a film about adventure and wildness just around the corner, locally - you don't have to fly thousands of kilometers by plane. It is also a story that shows that everyone can make the world a little better, even on a small local scale - and that's where it usually starts. Daniel Petryczkiewicz, born in 1976. Photographer, blogger, activist, passionate about small, wild and local things. A graduate of the first year of the Julia Fiedorczuk and Filip Springer School of Ecopoetics at the Institute of Reportage in Warsaw. He also collaborates with the following collectives: Siostry Rzeki, Alarm dla Klimatu, Stowarzyszenie Nasz Bóbr, Lasy i Obywatele, and What Will the Forest. Author of the exhibitions: Meanders 2015 and #NoBeautyInPlastic 2019 and Trees and People 2021. Winner of the audience award for the social project of the year 2019 in the plebiscite of the Ecological Street portal.
