The 2023-24 South-West Indian Ocean Cyclone Season was an above-average season, with 13 tropical storms. It featured a whopping 8 hurricane-equivalent cyclones and 2 major cyclones. Notable storms include Belal, which made a close pass to Réunion, Anggrek, which reached an incredible 140mph Category 4 peak after crossing into the basin from the Australian Region, Djoungou, another Category 4 cyclone which reached winds of 150mph, making it the season's strongest storm, Gamane, which underwent an impressive phase of rapid intensification before making a Category 2 landfall in Madagascar, and cyclones Hidaya and Ialy, two rare late-season storms which formed extremely close to the Equator.
